We begin by talking about nature because if its significance on the Sanibel's and Captiva's character. Nearly half of Sanibel Island is part of a wildlife preserve (that's over 6,000 acres.) Which means that the land will stay exactly as it is now for future generations to enjoy. While that makes visitors and residents happy, it's the animals who benefit the most. Over 100 species of birds call the island their home, along with over 50 types of reptiles and at least 32 different mammals. These animals can be seen up close and personal as you explore and enjoy what the island has to offer, which includes:

  • 5 beaches on Sanibel (The Lighthouse, Gulfside City Park, Tarpon Bay, Bowmans and Blind Pass.)
  • 2 beaches on Captiva (Blind Pass and Captiva Beach.) The parking fee for all beaches is $2.00 an hour.
  • Butterfly house where children can see all forms that butterflies take during development
  • Conservation society walking trailwhich explores interior wetlands on Sanibel.
  • Some of the BEST shelling areas on the planet. But be prepared to get to the beach AT DAWN.
  • 25 miles of paved bike paths on Sanibel (There are no bike paths on Captiva.)
  • 3 golf courses on Sanibel and 1 on on Captiva.
  • Ding Darling Wildlife Society where visitors can see the variety of wildlife on Sanibel and Captiva.
  • Many places to surf, parasail, scuba and jetski.
  • Adventures in Paradise , which offers tours and cruises of the waterways.
